Prevailing Wage Laws Don’t Raise Costs
Mauricio Velarde, Prevailing Wage Officer
Public works construction projects are performed under contract and paid for in whole or in part with public/tax payer funds.
Contractors and subcontractors that are awarded these projects are required by law to pay their workers prevailing wage rates as designated by the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR). Each trade has its’ own classification, ie: plumber, electrician, carpenter, etc.
